Crop season

When Bangladesh's potato crop is in season.

Potatoes are a winter crop in Bangladesh. Most of the crop is planted in November and harvested in February and March, then held in cold storage and sold down through the rest of the year.

Main period Start or end

  • Planting: the optimal time is the first week of November in the north and the middle to end of November in the south (Heliyon, 2024).
  • Early varieties: sown in September and October in the Rangpur region and harvested from the last week of November, in small volumes (The Daily Star, January 2025, citing the Department of Agricultural Extension).
  • Main harvest: February and March, with most of the crop harvested in March (Reviews in Agricultural Science, 2019). Harvesting can extend into April (The Daily Star, February 2025).
  • Cold storage: storing begins around the end of February (Bangladesh Cold Storage Association, via The Daily Star, February 2025), and stored potatoes are sold through to the higher-price months of October to December (Reviews in Agricultural Science, 2019).
  • Exports: follow the harvest; in February 2025 alone, around 12,000 t were exported (The Daily Star, March 2025).

This is the national crop pattern. It varies by region, variety and year, and it is not a statement of Conquest's stock, availability or delivery dates.
